Peggy Gentleman (b. Chicago, IL) is a fine art portrait photographer.  She currently resides and works in Chicago, IL.  Gentleman received her B.F.A. in Photography from Columbia College Chicago (2003), and her M.F.A. in Studio Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute (2007).  She is currently an Associate Professor of Photography at the Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago and has lectured at the University of California- Berkeley.  Her work primarily focuses on anthropological studies of femininity in mid-western women and American subcultures through the use portraiture.  Her work has been exhibited at The ARC Gallery, Gallery 180, The Museum of Contemporary Art Warehouse- Chicago, The Woman Made Gallery in Chicago, the Art Center in Highland Park, and Columbia Colleges West Coast Gallery Space in Los Angeles. Her current work is a meditation on single motherhood and the isolation it brings while raising two young boys as “Gentleman”.
